Loneliness is one of the most common struggles in our communities – yet can often be hidden from view. In this episode, Jason Roach speaks with LCM missionaries Matt Lofthouse and Johanna Briscoe. Together they explore how God is already at work among those who feel forgotten, and how we as Christians can help to connect people – not only to community, but ultimately to Christ.
Through stories from estates, streets and church outreach, they share how loneliness affects people of all ages, from young professionals working from home to older adults living alone. They also explore some of the barriers that can keep people isolated, including anxiety, bereavement, mental health challenges and fear of reaching out.
Matt and Johanna encourage listeners to take simple steps to connect with people – from learning someone's name, to stopping for a conversation, to inviting someone along to an activity. As relationships grow and we listen well to people, these everyday interactions will create natural opportunities to share the hope of Jesus.
“People actually want relationship… They want to be accepted as they are.”
