Sister Grace grew up in a mixed Muslim and Christian household and first heard about Jesus when she was 10 years old. She later accepted Jesus as her personal Lord and Saviour and was baptised aged 22. "My church has played such an important part in my journey of faith and has shaped me in many ways, so I would love to help other churches do the same in their communities", says Grace.
When Sister Grace's pastor told her about London City Mission, she felt it was a way for her to respond to God’s call to serve others, especially children and young people.
Sister Grace's heart for mission is to help people discover the peace and hope found in Christ, and for them to know that He is enough. "I’m reminded of Joseph’s words in Genesis 50:20: 'You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good.' I want people to know that even when life is difficult, God can use our circumstances for His glory and has a purpose for our lives."
Grace is serving in the Harrow and North Brent Team, mainly engaging with people from Muslim, Hindu, and other religious backgrounds. "I’m looking forward to building genuine relationships and having honest conversations about faith and Jesus", Grace says.
Harrow and Brent are very diverse communities, with many people from Muslim and other religious backgrounds. There is a real and deep need for genuine relationships where people feel listened to, valued, and able to ask honest questions about faith and life.
Sister Grace's vision is to see people in Harrow and Brent come to know Jesus and experience the difference He can make in their lives. She hopes that her own story and experiences will help her relate to people and be a blessing to them as they explore faith.
Grace is Sri Lankan and has studied in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, experiencing different cultures and ways of life. "I have a background in Computer Science and AI, and I love travelling", Grace says, "I’ve visited four continents so far and hope to see all seven one day! Above all, I want to use my experiences to serve others and share the hope I’ve found in Christ with people from all walks of life".
