Salome Wyatt

Missionary in Barking, Dagenham and Havering

"What drives me? The desire to see the salvation of souls and many people worshipping God.”

Salome grew up in a Christian home in South Africa. There was a never a day where she disbelieved, but often struggled with questions like, “How can I be sure this is all true?” and, “Can I have assurance that I’m saved?” Then one day at a small evangelistic event, teenage Salome heard a clear gospel presentation which led her to make a conscious commitment to follow Christ. Since that moment her heart for sharing the hope of the gospel has only grown.

“Having heard the hope of Jesus as a child and recognising the blessing that knowing him has been in my life, I have a desire to see children and young people also be given that opportunity to hear. What drives me? The desire to see the salvation of souls and many people worshipping God.”

Salome worked as a primary school teacher for a few years, worked at home as a full time Mum, and has thrown herself into church activities such as leading women’s groups, running toddler groups, and helping with children’s holiday clubs, amongst other ministries.

Salome now works as a Missionary in the boroughs of Barking, Dagenham, and Havering, specialising in Children, Youth and Schools. She is seeking to equip and inspire everyday Christians in local churches to lovingly bring a message of hope in Christ to those least likely to hear it. This involves supporting churches in running youth clubs and kids’ groups, and training new volunteers.

This area of east London has one of the youngest populations in the UK with great religious diversity, as 73% of school-aged children are from minority ethnic groups. Salome sees this as a great opportunity to reach the emerging generation and shares LCM’s vision to see a Christian witness in every school in London.

“I love Jesus’ image of building your house on the rock – a firm foundation. I believe if children have the opportunity to build on a rock from a young age it’s such a blessing. God has given me a heart for the lost, so I want to come alongside local churches to help them make meaningful, gospel connections with children and young people.”

Salome lives with her husband and three teenage children and enjoys spending time with them spotting freight trains and going for bike rides and walks.
