Mark Fyffe

Missionary in Southwark

"People are in need of a community that offers real hope"

Mark grew up without hearing the gospel until his late 20s, when he found himself stuck in drug addiction and plagued by guilt and shame. In 1996 he found freedom in Jesus, and over time he developed a desire to serve as a full time gospel worker. After praying for an opportunity, he jumped at the chance when a role came up with LCM.

“Having Jesus come and find me in the midst of my messy life was the greatest honour for me and I am now passionate about seeing others come to know Jesus as Lord and Saviour.”

Mark now works as a missionary in Southwark with a focus on reaching out to local council estates. He is seeking to equip and inspire everyday Christians in local churches to lovingly bring a message of hope in Christ to those least likely to hear it.

Southwark is a diverse borough with people from a wide range of ethnicities and backgrounds. 11% of households have no members who speak English as a first language, and 43% of children live in poverty.

“People are in need of a community that offers real hope for today and for the future, and I believe that the only community that can meet this need is the church. It’s my vision to see Southwark saturated with the aroma of Christ and hope restored to hopeless communities.”

Mark lives with his wife Tabitha and their four children. He loves spending quality time with them, playing games and travelling to new places.
