Hannah Newham

Hannah has been a follower of Jesus for as long as she can remember. For the past ten years she has lived in Barking and Dagenham (15 years total in London) and has 3 children who are all now in primary school. Whilst at home with them, Hannah was seeking ways to serve Jesus at her children’s school.

After a season helping on the Parent Teacher Association, Hannah soon became known as the “Christian mum” and was given the opportunity to start a toddler group in the school. These opportunities later developed into sharing her faith in assemblies and helping with RE lessons on Christianity. “I was an exhausted mum just doing what I could, and God blessed my efforts”, says Hannah. Hannah joined LCM with the vision of helping more churches engage with their local schools to share the gospel with them.

“Romans 10:14 says, ‘How are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard…’. My children were going into school and never hearing the gospel of the Lord Jesus. My heart for mission is that every child in school would have the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel.”

Hannah works as a Mission Associate in the Pan-London Schools Team, whose vision is to ensure that every school in London has a Christian witness. She works alongside churches to help everyday Christians to create and maintain partnerships with their local schools. Hannah supports volunteers from our church partnerships to deliver assemblies, after-school clubs or Religious Education lessons, and training them to teach children about the Bible.

There are about two million children and young people in London today, and only one in twenty attend church. It’s estimated that around half don’t even have a Christian friend to invite them to church. The LCM Schools Team work hard to empower the church to go into their communities and schools with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Hannah’s vision for schools in London is to see parents and carers equipped to be a witness for Jesus at their school gates, for Christian children to know and share their faith with confidence and for children in schools to encounter the Lord Jesus through the witness of His people.

Hannah is originally from Liverpool and is a twin with twins herself! As a busy Mum-of-three, Hannah’s weekends are usually spent with her children at playgrounds, swimming, or spending time with friends.
