Reaching your community

Our heart is to come alongside your church and serve you in the vision you have for outreach to your community.

We want to help and support churches to effectively reach out to people with the gospel.

Each situation and community is unique, and so we partner with churches in a number of ways. But broadly speaking, we take the approach below.

When you're ready, get in touch - we'd love to talk to you about how your vision for local mission can be realised.

OUR JOINT APPROACH

1. Starting with your vision

We find that so many churches already have a vision for reaching people around them with the life-giving news of Jesus. We'd love to hear your vision and prayerfully work with you on realising it.

2. Knowing your community

We can work together to better understand your local community and their needs so that you can connect with them and serve them in a relevant and loving way. This could involve defining an area you want to reach and conducting a survey amongst residents.

3. Building your ministry

Based on an understanding of your community and the gifts and passions within your church, we can help define what your ministry could look like. This might mean something completely new - or building on something that already exists. We'll consider not just how to initially engage people, but how to welcome them into church family. We can then help you envision the wider church to build a team - who we can train, ready to step out!

4. Stepping out together

Here comes the exciting part! Our experienced missionaries love coming alongside Christians, going out together into the local community, and encouraging them as they speak to people about Jesus.

So often we see men and women who were nervous about talking to someone about Jesus, who are now flourishing in their personal evangelism.

5. Releasing your church

And finally, once you feel your ministry has been developed and established, we can take a step back at the right time, continuing to support where required.

"One of the things I love about LCM, they know that when you come into a community, you've got to understand it. We found their mapping exercise of the local area invaluable - especially understanding its spiritual history. It's helped so much in the way we relate to people here."

EXAMPLES OF OUTREACH MINISTRY

Visiting homes

One of the best ways of getting to know your neighbours is to knock on their door and introduce yourself! Our experience has shown that an intentional, methodical approach to visiting residents of an estate is the most fruitful. We come alongside churches to help do this effectively. So often, people are happy to talk and to speak about Jesus!

Engaging Muslims with the gospel

Each year, hundreds of Christians are getting equipped through our Muslim Engagement Training. They get trained on understanding the origins of Islam, the evidence for the crucifixion and how to lovingly meet and talk with Muslims about Jesus. We also have missionaries who specialise in sharing the gospel with people from other religious backgrounds.

Reaching schools

Teaching on Christianity is compulsory in all England’s schools, but not all schools have Christian teachers. And so, we’re working alongside churches and schools, to share a personal experience of being a Christian, going into classrooms, open the Bible together with children and talk about Jesus.

Journey Church, Harrow

Journey Church in Harrow sensed a call to share the gospel amongst people living in the local community. With the help of LCM, they set about simply knocking on doors and offering prayer.
