WINTER CONFERENCE: REACHING YOUNG PEOPLE WITH THE GOSPEL

Do you long to meaningfully connect with the young people in your community – especially those outside of the church walls?

It can be a daunting prospect, but you and your church have amazing potential to share the life-changing news of Jesus in a relevant and powerful way!

The LCM winter conference is especially designed to help you realise that potential, so you can confidently take the next step – wherever you are in that journey.

We’ll explore the culture and challenges which young people, especially those living in urban settings, experience every day. What and who do they value? What are their fears and anxieties? We’ll be tackling the issue of knife crime and serious youth violence (SYV) and how the church can respond. LCM missionaries will share their insights from years of front-line ministry.

You’ll hear practical steps you and your church can take – to welcome young people into church community, to share your lives with them and to disciple them to grow into Christlikeness. You’ll hear some incredible first-hand stories of how God has been at work in the lives of young people across London.

It will be a chance to connect with and exchange experiences with other Christians from across London and beyond. You’ll have space to share your challenges in ministry, and work through potential solutions.

We’ll be bringing all that we discuss before the Lord in prayer, and we’ll begin and end both days in worship. The Bible has so much to say about how we can love and serve young people – which we’ll be digging into throughout the conference.

We pray you’ll come away rejuvenated, inspired and equipped to take the next step in sharing your life, and the gospel with the children and young people in your community.

We would love to see you there!

Day One

Here is a snapshot of some of the highlights on day one. A full programme would be available closer to the day.

DAY ONE will kick off with a time of worship, followed by prayer for our ministries and young people. We’ll then have our first talk by Gareth Jones - LCM Field Director for School teams across London, on the biblical theme of Forgiveness and how it applies to everyday life.

Still on the theme of forgiveness, we’ll have an interactive workshop led by Operation Forgiveness – an early intervention knife crime initiative, followed by a round table discussion exploring knife crime and a talk on Reaching London’s youth and children.

We’ll then break for lunch, which will be provided on the house, and will have an opportunity to network with other youth leaders.

The afternoon will begin with a talk by Efrem Buckle - LCM Training & Mentoring Director and Deputy Chief Executive, on Respecting Youth Culture, a Q&A panel discussion on youth culture and we’ll close the day with a round table discussion on Cultural experiences – how young people from different backgrounds experience and navigate life.

Day Two

Here is a snapshot of some of the highlights on day two. A full programme would be available closer to the day.

DAY TWO will commence with a time of worship, followed by a talk by Adam Boyce - LCM Team Leader for Haringey and Rise Link Ups (a summer residential for inner City London youth)  about the “WHO, WHAT, WHY and HOW“ for teaching the next generation. This will be followed by a round table discussion on Gen-Z.

After lunch, we’ll have a panel discussion by church leaders, followed by a Q&A and round table discussion about obstacles, opportunities and church partnership.

They’ll be a chance to explore what practical steps you can take in your ministry and how LCM can help you with this.

We’ll close the conference with worship and will leave time at the end for fellowship and networking.

Jason O'Shea

LCM Missionary

Jason leads the Operation Forgiveness team that consists of his wife, Tayo and Mother-in-law, Sarah.

In 2010, Tayo’s youngest brother Zac was stabbed by a gang and murdered. Jason and his team share this traumatic story and how, through faith in Christ, both Sarah and Tayo were able to forgive the five boys responsible.

Adam Boyce

LCM Missionary

Adam and his team in Haringey share the gospel with young people alongside local churches, helping church members to sensitively share the hope they have in Christ with youth in their own communities. Adam is also part of a team of leaders who run a week-long annual LiNKUP, where approx. 60 young people get the opportunity to leave London (some for the first time) and get away from the stress and worry of their everyday lives.

Charlotte Mayhew

LCM Missionary

Charlotte joined the mission in 2014 and spent six years ministering to Muslim women in South London. She is now the Field director for North London overseeing teams of missionaries across the region, whilst overseeing the Diaspora Ministry at LCM.

Gareth Jones

LCM Field Director for Children, Youth and Schools

Gareth is an LCM Field Director who specialises in reaching out to children, youth, and schools in London communities.

He leads teams of missionaries who are passionate about sharing the gospel in schools and amongst young people who are unlikely to know a Christian who can share their faith and invite them to church.

Efrem Buckle

Training & Mentoring Director, Deputy Chief Executive

Efrem joined London City Mission in 2014 as a part time Training Manager helping to establish the LCM Pioneer Programme and is now Director of Training and Mentoring / Deputy CEO, seeking to serve in strengthening LCM’s impact and increasing the reach of quality training provision.

Before joining LCM he spent years working with youth in a variety of ways, including going into schools with a music ministry, and he is part of the team behind a independent school helping youth between 11-16 who find themselves at a crisis point in their educational experience.
