PET day: Reaching Seniors with the Gospel

Join us for our practical evangelism training day on reaching seniors with the truth and love of Jesus.

Someone’s later years are hugely significant – but people are increasingly neglected and lonely as they get older and have fewer opportunities to hear the gospel.

God’s heart is to see older people brought into the community and to see that community love those seniors well. When we see older people giving their lives to Jesus, there's great potential not only for spiritual growth, but also for giving and serving in unique ways in the church.

There is great opportunity for Christians to get along with them, point them to Jesus, and let them know that their best days are yet to come.

Whether you’re already running an outreach to seniors and want to learn how to develop it, or whether you’re not sure of where to start, this training day is for you!

We’ll be joined by season contributors covering the following areas:

  • How do I reach unbelieving seniors in my family and community?
  • What are the dos and don’ts to effectively reach seniors?
  • How best can I interact with individuals with possible dementia?
  • How do seniors fit into the framework of serving the church community?
  • ....and much more!

So, wherever you are on your journey in this crucial and hugely rewarding ministry, come and join us as we explore effective and creative ways to connect and share the gospel with people in later life, as well as practical knowledge, tips and tools that you can implement when interacting with seniors.

The world may think seniors have passed their prime, but God isn’t done with them yet!

Kevin Croft

LCM Field Director in South London

"My area of particular focus as a field director is Council Estates and Seniors. I am really excited, from conversations with church leaders across London, that there is a genuine desire to reach out to those living on estates, including those isolated because of their age. One of the biggest barriers is that many churches just don’t know where to begin.

It is an honour to be able to help equip churches to reach out and disciple those living in their local communities that have so often been overlooked".

Louise Brady

LCM Mission Mobilisation Manager

Lou Brady works as a Mission Mobilisation Manager at LCM and supports Kevin Croft and the team in Council Estates and Seniors ministries. Lou also volunteers with her church to provide a monthly church service to a local residential care home. Lou is looking forward to sharing her experiences in Seniors ministry, but is also looking forward to hearing about other people's experiences at the conference too!

Lou will be leading sessions on how to run activities to get to know seniors in local and church communities, as well as how to bring a church service to a residential care home.

Steve Taylor

LCM Missionary in Southwark

Steve is part of the LCM Southwark team who are building relationships and encouraging churches throughout the borough.

"I count it a privilege to serve in an urban multicultural city like London. I've experienced mission with seniors living alone or confined in residential homes.

My focus is on the increasing proportion of seniors that will characterise our population in the coming years – the generation that grew up with little or declining exposure to the gospel in their formative years."

Shane Goodyear

LCM Missionary in Lambeth

Working in the borough of Lambeth, Shane has spent years bridging the gap between the church and the community via outreach programmes, mentoring and more.

“I seek to witness about Christ to people from all backgrounds who come from and live on council estates. I want to train Christians to share their faith with people who were brought up in, or are currently living in this context.

And I want to disciple people from estates with the knowledge and love of Christ both broadly and deeply, equipping Christians to do likewise.”
