Foundation Course

The Foundation Course is a part-time two-year training course which will equip you for gospel mission in an urban setting. If you have a heart for the lost people of our city, this course will prepare you spiritually and practically to reach them with God’s love. It provides an essential understanding of the Christian faith, and is for anyone with a passion for the gospel.

The course involves classroom study; you will explore the overarching story of the Bible and grow your knowledge of Scripture. But it is also practical. There are sessions on spirituality, reaching marginalised people with the gospel, sharing faith with Muslims and how to engage in Biblical counselling. You’ll be coached in delivering Bible talks and sharing your testimony.

There is also regular group mentoring to explore questions about faith, what is taught on the course and what it all means for the students' lives.

The course runs for one day a week during term time, over a period of two years (though it is possible to complete just year one of the course).

Training overview

Each day starts with a short Bible talk and prayer, led by students. This is followed by an ‘Eat the Word’ session, led by a lecturer. Eat the Word is a course which takes you through the big story of the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, in two years. It’s designed to build Bible knowledge and understanding.

There are three further lectures each day. These will be on practical topics like understanding Islam, reaching marginalised people, developing your testimony or delivering a Bible message.

The personal development of students is a big part of the Foundation Course. You will have group mentoring sessions, led by students, where you’ll have opportunities to discuss issues.
