WE CRY OUT FOR OUR CITY

The fire that tore through Grenfell Tower last night brings us to our knees, as we cry out to the Lord.

I cry aloud to God,
aloud to God, and he will hear me.

Psalm 77:1 (ESV)

We are deeply saddened by this tragic and devastating event. Our hearts go out to all those people who’ve lost family and friends, homes and belongings, and to those who have been injured, both physically and psychologically. We lift them up before the Lord in prayer.

We are so thankful for our emergency services and the way they selflessly responded to the situation. We continue to pray for them as they look after the injured and homeless.

Graham Miller, London City Mission Chief Executive, said:

"We don’t understand why these things happen, and we cry out for a people who are devastated and whose homes have been destroyed. Yet we know we serve a good and loving God. We see signs of this in the outpouring of love by Christians offering food, water and clothing, and churches, like Latymer Community Church and St Clement’s, who are reaching out in love with hope and the good news of Jesus."

Update: 16/06/17

Over the last few days, we have been working with our friends, The Message Trust, who have been on the ground at Latymer Community Church. Our missionaries who work nearby have also been praying and comforting those who have lost so much, and providing essential toiletries and food.

So far, we have been directing supporters who wanted to give to the relief efforts to do so directly with Latymer Community Church. Thank you to everyone who made a donation – you helped to make a real difference to people in need.

Latymer Community Church has informed us that they now have enough funds to support them with the immediate relief efforts. We give God thanks for this.

Update: 13/09/17

London City Mission had identified the area around Grenfell Tower as particularly least reached with the gospel. We have been planning and praying with local partners for the past couple of years about starting a ministry project in the area and are currently recruiting a missionary to be based at the local Latymer Community Church, reaching out to the community with the love of God and good news of Jesus Christ.

Our missionaries continue to minister in places just like the area that Grenfell Tower is in. Many of them go door-to-door, sharing Jesus with people on housing estates across London.

If you would like to support this work financially, we would be very grateful. (Please enter 'Grenfell' in the Reference field on the donation form.)

Please pray:

  • For the God of all comfort to draw near those who are grieving and who have lost loved ones, their homes and belongings.
  • For wisdom for those on the ground who are co-ordinating response efforts and support.
  • For provision for those who have lost so much.

Come Lord Jesus, this city needs you.
