Urban Track

Introduction

Urban Track Logo Web

URBAN TRACK is designed for those taking a career

break or seeking an opportunity for service in retirement. Their skills and experience can be applied to a wide

range of practical Christian work, from helping

families to administering the Mission.

Married couples will be able to have their own apartments, probably in our new accommodation facility at Nasmith Court.

Why a new scheme?

Society is changing. Many people are retiring early. Others are taking a career break between jobs. Life expectancy is increasing, and people are fitter and more active into their sixties and seventies. Many mature Christians want to use such opportunities by getting involved in full-time Christian work. For some, it’s a way of giving thanks to God. For others it’s something they’ve always dreamed of doing, but never had the time. For all, it’s a way of using the gifts and experience that God has given them over the years.

For a long time LCM has had a ‘year out’ scheme for young people – and it has been extremely successful in furthering the work and in identifying and developing the gifts and calling of those on the scheme. But the Church doesn’t only consist of the young. We take the Bible seriously when it states that “grey hairs are a crown of glory.” We believe that there is a vast resource within the Christian Church that could make a major impact on the lives of individuals and communities within the inner city. That resource is the experience and gifts of thousands of mature Christians.

‘Urban Track’ makes it possible for such Christians to come to London and work alongside City Missionaries, contributing to their on-going work in a rich variety of ways.

Who’s it for?

Anyone over the age of 35, singles or married couples, who have been committed Christians for at least ten years, who can commit to the scheme for a minimum of six months if not the whole year. They will ideally have been active in their local church, or with a Christian organisation, as a volunteer or full-time worker, eg:

  • a mother who has brought up a family and has now seen them leave home;
  • someone who has been involved in church youth work, or outreach on a volunteer basis;
  • a professional who is willing to use their practical skills in the Mission, or teach them to others;
  • an overseas missionary, who has now had to return to the UK.
