Church Resources (promotional items)

From time to time, we are asked by Churches to supply material for church newsletters etc.  Please feel free to use any of the following materians and do not hesitate to contact us if there is any other thing that you may find useful - it may be that other churches would benefit from it being available too.  We would appreciate a copy of any newsletters mentioning the Mission sent to us at HQ, for our records.

Prayer materials

Our weekly Prayer Update may be found here, and is updated every Wednesday with news from around the Mission.  An archive of several weeks is also available should you wish to obtain more material.

We are also producing a regular monthly Update which may be downloaded (PDF) below.  This is designed as a standalone item that may be pinned on the church noticeboard but of course you may wish to use the material, in conjunction with the above, to form a regular newsletter column or part of a prayer meeting to bring the needs of the Mission before your congregation.

Newsletter article
The following article may be used as a brief introduction to the work of the Mission, and may of course be adapted to fit the space required. We are able to send you a passport style photograph of your visiting speaker by email on request.

The London City Mission was founded on May 16th 1835. Since this date, the Mission has maintained its original purpose – to “go to the people of London” with the good news of Jesus Christ, and to “do them good by every means in your power”.

The London City Mission exists to share with the people of London, patiently, sensitively and individually, the transforming love of God in Jesus Christ and to enable them to join the church. In pursuit of this purpose Mission staff, paid and volunteers, go to the people of London, especially those in social, economic or personal need:
  • where they live – through community ministries based on local churches or the Mission’s own centres, or through school work;
  • where they work – through chaplaincy ministries, especially among the transport and emergency services;
  • where they have settled – through specialised ministries to immigrants and ethnic minorities;
  • where they are marginalised – through ministries to prisons, homeless people and street people;
  • where they are being cared for – through hospital visiting and pastoral work in care homes for the elderly.
You can find out much more about the Mission’s work from its website at www.lcm.org.uk  or from its magazine “Changing London”.

In the preface to a history of the Mission published in 2003, Rev Dr Timothy Keller, a Senior Pastor in the Presbyterian Church in New York wrote: “The LCM faces exciting but daunting new challenges in the 21st century. But despite the inevitable changes that will come, as it holds on to its core value of urban neighbour evangelism, it will continue to play a major, effective, strategic role in the work of the kingdom for years to come. London is one of the three or four most influential urban centres in the world today. I am profoundly grateful that the London City Mission continues to be an anchor for gospel witness in that great city.”

The London City Mission employs more than 150 people and depends almost entirely on voluntary contributions from individuals and churches to finance these ministries. Please pray for the ongoing and critical work of the Mission and consider making a donation to the continuation and development of that work.
