Winning the city

London is a huge city made up of millions of individual people and hundreds of distinct but overlapping communities. The world is in London. It is a city of global significance in economics, politics, culture and religion. Yet London is also the UK’s leading city in alcohol addiction, child poverty, illiteracy, loneliness and isolation.

For the last 176 years, London City Missionaries have been seeking to fulfil God’s call to bring his life-changing gospel to the city. We seek to win the city for Christ, one person at a time.

One of our missionaries, Shane Love, recently shared an encouraging story:
“I have known George and Sheila for the last couple of years. They are both in their eighties. Sheila suffers from dementia, but to see the joy she has as she worships, and to have her take hold of your hand and say “Praise God” and “God bless you” is such a precious gift. George recently spent a week in hospital with pneumonia. It was during this time that he said the penny finally dropped, it all made sense. He gave his life to Jesus. With a tear of joy in his eye he told me. ‘There’s nothing like it. It’s wonderful.’”

At the heart of the way our city missionaries share the gospel is a prayerful patience and sensitivity to an individual person’s particular circumstances. Like all our missionaries Shane took time to get to know George and Sheila and was there to share Jesus and provide the right words at the right time.

In the various ones and twos, God is moving in the lives of Londoners. Please pray that people will have an increasing appetite to find the answers to the big questions of life. Please continue to partner with us as we seek to win this city for Christ.

“Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.”
1 Corinthians 9v19
