Prayer Update – Wednesday 25 January 2012

London City Mission’s Schools Christian Resource Centre has become home to a brand new interactive resource called Bible 66, which has been created to help children aged 5–11 learn about the Bible’s history.

Activities include experiencing day-to-day living in a Bedouin tent, attending scribe training, finding out about printing and typesetting, experiencing 21st-century forms of the Bible (such as apps, CDs and DVDs), and ‘meeting’ (in inverted commas) either William Tyndale or Mary Jones – people whose lives were changed by the Bible and who then became a catalyst for change, ensuring that the Bible was written in the language of the people in this country.
Many primary school classes have already visited and enjoyed this new resource, and so now our schools workers will also be holding the exhibition at our Headquarters building and inviting churches to come and visit the exhibition from 7-10 February.
Please will you pray as our schools workers prepare for yet another busy week in February, and pray too that many churches will send representatives to visit this exciting interactive resource.

This Friday will be exactly 6 months before the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games and in David Linley’s seconded role as London Director for More Than Gold, things are beginning to gain momentum. Praise God for all the churches and individuals from right across the UK who are keen to be involved with this amazing opportunity around the Games, and pray that many more will see the potential.

Pray for all the arrangements taking place for the Get Set training tour to be held in 17 locations across the country starting in Crawley on Saturday 4 February. These unique training days will equip churches planning to host Big Screen events during the Games and those planning to be involved in activities as the Torch Relay comes by. There will also be training for people wanting to be Games Pastors in London and other cities around the country where there will be Olympic and Paralympic venues. You’ll get more details and can sign up for the Get Set training days on the More Than Gold website: www.morethangold.org.uk.

And please pray for David and Phil Moore from LCM, that God will give them wisdom and sustain them in all the busyness of these days.

Thank you for your prayers for LCM in these early weeks of 2012. God bless you.

Prayer Update – Wednesday 18 January 2012

We are delighted to report that a baby girl was born to Laurence and Amy Truett on 12 January. I am sure they would value your prayers in these early days of parenthood, as they enjoy their new role of being parents to little Darcy.

Phil Moore and Jacqui Katze are attending a Missions Fair at All Nations Bible College this Wednesday, 18 January. Please pray that God will use this to bring the students of His choosing to LCM.

Colin Dyer, a retired missionary living in Worthing, is in hospital at the moment. Colin is due to have an operation at the end of this month and dental treatment prior to that op. His sodium level is not as high as it should be and if not resolved the planned operation will not go ahead. Colin and Irene would value our prayers. Please pray for the correct treatment now so that his much needed operation is able to go ahead as planned.

Missionary Paul Holland will be retiring on 23 January, having served 32 years in the Mission. Paul and his wife Lesley have worked for most of this time in Mission Centres, and mainly in the Tottenham area, although latterly he has been ministering from Whitefoot Lane Christian Centre in Downham.

Please pray as Paul and Lesley prepare to leave London, and that they will settle in to their new home quickly, which is a bit further away from their family and grandchildren. Pray that the Lord will direct them to the right church. They would like to be able to still serve the Lord but in a different capacity now, and are trusting Him to lead and guide, as He always has. But pray that they will first be able to enjoy a bit of a rest after what has been an extremely busy time in mission work.

Missionary Matt Lofthouse will be replacing Paul and has already started work at Whitefoot Lane Christian Centre and is settling in. Please pray for Matt as he faces this new challenge of a new ministry. He and his wife are also expecting a second child in February.

Thank you for praying for London City Mission. We are so grateful for your prayers. God bless you.

Prayer Update – Wednesday 11 January 2012

Welcome to the London City Mission Prayer Update line. This is Andrew Down, bringing you the London City Mission prayer update for Wednesday, 11 January.

This week marks 200 days to go before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. Excitement is building and a special prayer event is being held next week in East London for the churches and all those concerned to engage with the Olympic and Paralympic Games. This will be held at lunchtime next Tuesday, 17 January.

Please pray that this excitement will build so that many churches in London and throughout the UK will catch the vision to be involved in this momentous event.

London City Mission have the responsibility of heading up the Games Pastors programme for the Games. We are able to offer our organisational and missionary skills to help with the Games Pastors programme, particularly around St Pancras station which will be known as the Gateway to the Games.

Please pray for more volunteers to join this exciting programme and pray too for Phil Moore who, as London Co-ordinator for Games Pastors, has the tremendous task of dealing with applications.

Finally, please pray for Iain MacDonald who is currently working on the next edition of our magazine Changing London. Pray that God would enable him to put together words and photos in a way that is interesting and helpful to people who support the work. We are also looking to draw in new supporters, and would be grateful for your prayers in this too.

Well thank you for your prayers for the Mission in this Olympic year, and may God bless you in your own service and ministry for Him.

Prayer Update – Wednesday 4 January 2012

Welcome to the very first London City Mission prayer update in 2012.

This week, as has been the Mission’s custom for many years, we are beginning the year with a special Week of Prayer. All our staff come together at our Headquarters building each day throughout this very first week of 2012. There is a time of devotions, prayer, and dedication to the ministry that God has entrusted to us. Different speakers are invited to preach the Word each day, and reports on the different areas of ministry are given.

Please join us in praying for LCM’s varied ministries: on Wednesday we are praying for our Workplace and Schools ministries and for our work among the Marginalised; on Thursday we will pray for our Compassion and Ethnic ministries, Café ministries and Community Centres; and on Friday we will pray for our Church-attached ministry, Headquarters, and our ministry around the Olympic Games.

While the missionaries are in Headquarters this week we have asked some of them for matters for prayer. David McAdam asks us to pray for a man who works as an engineer in a bus garage. David gave him a Bible before Christmas and asks for prayer that the truth of the Bible verse John 3:16 will go to this man’s heart and not just into his mind.

Lucy Merino, who works among the women in Holloway Prison, asks us to pray for two women she has met in the course of her ministry.

One lady’s trial at court began this week. Lucy asks for prayer that the Lord will grant her favour. This woman told Lucy that before she came into prison she thought she knew the Lord. But now she knows Him in a deeper way and is going into the court trusting that God is with her.

The other lady is appealing against her sentence. Lucy has been visiting her in prison during the past year, and she became a Christian through Lucy’s ministry. Lucy asks for prayer that God will sustain this lady as she waits for her appeal that in the middle of all that is happening she may know His strength upholding her.

Thank you for praying for London City Mission. We do so appreciate your standing with us in this way and remembering us before the Throne of Grace. God bless you during the coming year in all that you do in serving God, and especially as you pray with us for the work of the Mission.
